Birthday Thoughts

Birthdays are generally associated with celebrations. Partying, receiving good wishes, gifts and holidaying without any care in the world. These are the main themes of everyone’s birthday. But what if I am asked to talk to God on my birthday? I will speak thus:

God, thank you very much for bringing me in this world. Without your wish, I would not have been here. God, I also thank my parents for bringing me to this world with your blessings. I am especially obliged to my mother for taking my care when I was inside her body. God, I thank my father for showing me how to live in this world and being with me in my early days. God, today, I thank everyone who has played any role in helping me in my life till today. I also thank the earth, the sky, the nature and everything without which the life would be no where.

God, I also apologize to everyone today. I might have knowingly or unknowingly hurt many people in my life. I apologize to them. God, I might have done many wrong things in my life but I have also done few good things with your guidance. God, I am proud of my achievements and myself. I know that I may not get all that I want and may not reach all of my goals, but with your guidance I will try to achieve as many of them as possible. I want to contribute in a small way to make this world a better place. Please guide me about that. What should I do so that I get inner satisfaction of doing something for the society.

God, on my birthday today, I wish to remove all anger, hatred, jealousy, envy and every other negative emotion from my heart. I want to cleanse my heart and refill it with feelings of love and joy. God, please help me celebrate my birthday this way. God, Thank you.

Asbestos Testing- Necessary Protection Against Killer Diseases

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:17 am

Asbestos testing.is the method to determine the presence of asbestos in the industrial processes, residential buildings and objects. Asbestos had been commonly used as construction materials in buildings till few years back. A mineral compound, asbestos is the common name for a group of six naturally occurring fibrous minerals found in certain rock formations. During mining and processing, asbestos produces very thin and light fibers that are easily released into the air.

Once released into the air, the asbestos particles can remain suspended for a long time. These fibers are invisible to human eyes and when inhaled can cause serious health problems including lung cancer. This is the reason why asbestos testing is a necessary safeguard for people handling and working with asbestos materials. People who are handling asbestos or products containing asbestos, including those involved in mining, producing or processing asbestos are at a great health risk. Natural resources containing asbestos and pipes made of cement can contaminate even drinking water.

Asbestos testing is must and strongly suggested for the areas where asbestos related industries were functional or asbestos was used as a material.

Establishing the presence of Asbestos

We can safely assume that a material is asbestos or contains asbestos unless it is clearly otherwise on the label or is verified by the manufacturer. Alternatively, it has to undergo a process of asbestos testing to verify the absence or presence of asbestos materials. Asbestos testing is especially necessary if such material was on the EPA’s Sample List of Suspect Asbestos-Containing Materials Exit Ecology and was manufactured with asbestos in the past.

Asbestos Sampling

Asbestos sampling is the precursor for asbestos testing. Asbestos sampling and analyzing should be undertaken in a laboratory by a qualified personnel. It is dangerous to attempt this yourself, without acquiring sufficient information on the process and without proper precautions. If access to a laboratory is not possible and you wish to take the sample yourself, you must be very careful not to release asbestos fibers into the air or onto yourself.

Method of Asbestos Testing

Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) analysis of suspect material by specialized microscopes is a requirement of the EPA for asbestos testing. The results of asbestos testing establish the percentage and type of asbestos present in the sample material.

You: Ready When The Power Goes Out?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 4:17 am

When the electric goes out, what’s one of the first things you reach for? A flashlight. And what else are you recommended to have handy?? A radio.

Sometimes it’s the simplest things that we have the hardest time keeping track of, keeping in their rightful place, or keeping batteries fresh in.

The good news is that a power out kit has been designed that can be used as a safety product at home, in the office, in your car, camping, on a boat, anywhere you could possibly be caught in a storm or left without power. The kit, called The Club Power Out Kit, includes a handheld flashlight, an FM radio, a lantern that uses a bright LED light, and eight batteries.

“It’s a good idea to keep the Kit in your basement-or whatever room you use as shelter-should you need to retreat there during a storm or a tornado watch,” said Karen Winner Hale, of Winner International.

“This Kit combines some basic necessities and provides some light and communication from the outside when and where you need it most.”

Should you happen to be on the road during a power outage and suffer a breakdown, these tips will help to ensure your safety:

• Check your car’s tires, oil and belts. Proper maintenance is essential to prevent breakdowns.

• If your insurance does not include a roadside assistance endorsement, consider joining an automobile association that offers roadside assistance to its members.

• Purchase a cellular phone, which will allow you to call for assistance without leaving your car.

• Make sure you know how to change a tire and check your spare.

Pack a survival kit with flares, jumper cables, a first aid kit, bottled water, an extra quart of oil, radiator fluid, a blanket and road atlas.

An Ecommerce Internet Merchant Account

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 9:29 pm

Small business owners and home based entrepreneurs sometimes reach the point where they realize their company is ready to grow, and then they begin to consider the advantages of an ecommerce Internet merchant account. Those who accept merely cash or check payments may decide to increase the ways in which a customer can pay for goods or services. A merchant account will let business owners accept credit card payments in many different ways. That is why so many business people opt to apply for an Internet merchant account.

If you do not already have an Internet Website to promote your business, this would be a good time to put one in place by opening an Ecommerce Internet Merchant account. More and more, consumers are looking to the Internet to find companies that offer the products and terms they want. Conducting business on the Internet or through technological means is called ecommerce, sometimes spelled as e-commerce, and it is growing at a tremendously rapid rate. Once your Website is operational, you will want to update it often with your latest product lines and descriptions and price lists. Once customers from any other computer in the world know where to find you, chances are they will return time and again if they like your site; they might even bookmark it.

To keep customers coming back, get an Ecommerce Internet merchant account that will let you accept credit card payments. That way, customers can buy things at your store locations, whether online or at a physical site, and pay for them instantly. You wont have to send out statements or wait for checks to arrive in the mail. Instead, your credit-processing feature will let them pay with a credit card, and your underwriter can facilitate the payment by converting currency and deposit profits in your account, using real time.

An ecommerce Internet merchant account can put you leagues ahead of other companies in your industry. While they still take just check or cash payments, you can be busy processing credit card payments that could push your sales volume to new record heights. Naturally, you will want to keep your store looking attractive, and your Website should offer helpful information that will make guests want to return and possibly even bookmark your site for frequent reference. When the word gets out that you are accepting credit payments, more customers may browse your Website to check out your wares and plunk down a credit card in payment. One of the nice things about using credit is its convenience. Customers dont have to worry about carrying enough cash or making an account deposit before going shopping. They can browse spontaneously, and when they find something they want to buy, they need not be constrained by a lack of cash on hand or forgetting to order new checks for the checkbook.

Why not apply for your merchant account services account soon so that you can enjoy the status and benefits of attracting customers who prefer using credit when they hear about your ecommerce Internet merchant account.

How To Transport Your New Kayak? Get A Car Rack

Right after you buy a kayak, you’ll find you also need to buy a car rack to carry it. There are three types of car racks to choose among.

People who are shopping for car racks notice right away that there are many to choose from. There are many ways to travel with your kayak on the roof of your vehicle. You want to choose the best one for your kayak and your vehicle. You want to be sure the system that you pick is reliable and suitable for your kayak’s size.

All three types of kayak mountings are efficient, depending on the vehicle and the kayak.

Vertical Support System
The vertical support system normally goes on the rear of the vehicle and is usually used on vans or SUVs. The holder has upright poles and straps to keep the kayak in position.

Saddle System
The saddle system has four padded holders attached to the vehicle for the kayak to sit on. Straps wrap around the kayak to hold it fast.

Roller System
The roller system is similar to the saddle system except it has wheels that make loading and removing the kayak easier.

People usually travel with their kayaks on the roof. Each system works reliably with proper installation, and each system adjusts to the size of the kayak and works for all vehicles. So just choose one, put it on and hit the road and the water!

How to Find Free Government Grant Money

Finding free government grant money can be time and labor intensive. Identifying the specific agencies and their purposes and specific subject areas can involve a lot of research work. Ads that claim the process is easy usually involve some sort of fraud and are untruthful. Government grant money will need to be answered for very specifically in today’s world.

Free government grant money does actually come with at a price. It does not have to be repaid, but it does come with strict conditions and restrictions on how it is spent. There are usually strong sanctions involved when used improperly as it is to be used directly for the outlined project and within the objectives of the funding source.

Locating free government grant money for new and existing for-profit businesses is difficult. Typically, the free grant money is given to non-profit organizations that provide some sort of community social service function and benefit everyone. Despite this, it should be noted that there is still free grant money available from the government to entrepreneurs in competitive fields of business.

The U.S. government’s grant.gov website would be the best place to look to find available free grant money. Here, you will be able to find and apply for competitive grant opportunities from all federal granting agencies online. The application and approval process is automated to improve the process. The site also offers a free sign up for notification of future grant opportunities.

The CFDA.gov website lists government grants and assistance for homeowners, renters and even small business start-ups. Grant information is available by category, topic and key words. Eligibility requirements are listed for all grants to determine if you qualify for them.

Keep in mind while searching for free government grant money that it is not available in any specific area year-round. You must apply when advertised and meet a deadline if you want a chance to qualify for it.

What Is Your Career?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:54 pm

What is your career? Forget about how you define this to others for now, and just think for a bit about how you define your career to yourself. What does it mean to you to have a career? Is it just your job? Is it something you do to make a living? Is it what you do for money? Is it your work?

Most people would define a career as more than a job. Above and beyond a job, a career is a long-term pattern of work, usually across multiple jobs. A career implies professional development to build skill over a period of time, where one moves from novice to expert within a particular field. And lastly, I would argue that a career must be consciously chosen; even if others exert influence over you, you must still ultimately choose to become a doctor or a lawyer or an accountant. If you didn’t make a conscious choice at some point, I would then say you have a job but not a career.

One of the difficulties I see a lot of people experiencing lately is that they spend the bulk of their days working at a job that isn’t part of a consciously chosen career. Once you graduate from school and enter the work force, you don’t suddenly gain the knowledge of what kind of career to build. Most likely you just focus on getting a job as your first step after school. And you probably have to make this choice in your early 20s. After a decade or two, you’ve established a pattern of work and built up some expertise. But at what point did you stop and say, what is my career going to be?

Sometimes when you ask people what their career is (instead of asking what their job is), the question makes them uncomfortable. Why? Because they think of a career as something intentionally chosen, purposeful, and meaningful, and they don’t see those qualities in their job. Another possibility is that they feel deep down that their real career lies elsewhere.

Just because you’ve been working in a field for many years doesn’t mean you have to turn that pattern of work into your career. The past is the past. You can continue to run the same pattern and follow that same path into the future, but at any time you’re also free to make a total break with the past and turn yourself onto an entirely new career path in the future. Ask yourself if you were starting over from scratch today, fresh out of school, would you still choose the same line of work? If the answer is no, then you only have a job right now, not a career. Your career lies elsewhere.

I went through this process myself last year when I asked myself, “What is my career?” I’ve been developing and publishing computer games since 1994. And that was exactly what I wanted to do when I was 22 years old. Game development was the career I had consciously chosen; I didn’t just fall into it. It took a lot of work to start my own company and build it into a successful business. But at age 33, I had to stop and say that I no longer wanted game development to be my career. I still enjoy it, and I may continue doing a little on the side as a hobby for many years, but I no longer think of it as my career.

And yet, when I looked around for what else I might define as my new career, I was in a quandary. I saw all the assets I’d built in my game development career… and a long list of goals yet to be accomplished. Of course, the real problem was that I was looking to the past and projecting it onto the future. So all I could see on the road ahead was a continuation of the road behind. My solution was to use zero-based thinking… imagining I was starting from scratch again, forgetting the past for a moment, seeing the present moment as something fresh and new that didn’t already have a directional vector assigned to it — it could point in any new direction I gave it.

At the same time I started thinking like this, I also decided to broaden my definition of career. While running my games business, I had been operating with a very 3rd-dimensional view of a career. It was about success, achievement, accomplishment, making a good living, sales, serving customers, etc. At different times my career was that I was a game programmer, a game developer, or a game publisher. Those were the labels I used.

But whereas these kinds of objectives were very motivating to me when I was in my 20s, years later I found them to be far less motivating. Achieving more and succeeding more just wasn’t enough of a motivator by itself. And I’ve seen others fall into the same situation too — the things that motivated them greatly at one point no longer seem all that motivating years later. The motivational strategies that work in your 20s don’t necessarily keep working in your 30s.

The solution I found was to look behind the labels and discover the core of my career. When I looked behind the labels of game programmer, game developer, and game publisher, I saw that the core of my career was entertaining people. That was the real purpose behind what I was doing. And that’s when it made sense to me that this was a very motivating purpose for me in my 20s, but that in my 30s it lost its edge because I had grown to the point in my own life where I felt that entertaining people was no longer the BEST way for me to contribute.

Think about this for a moment. What is the core of your career? What do you contribute? What is the big picture of what you do? If you work for a large company, then how do your actions contribute to some larger purpose? Be honest with yourself. And don’t ignore the role your company plays in your career; your career depends heavily on what you’re contributing down the line. If you truly assign a noble purpose to what you do, that’s great. For example, if you work at a grocery store, you might be inspired by the fact that you help feed people. But don’t force it if you don’t actually believe it. If you feel your contribution is weak or even negative, then admit that to yourself, even if you don’t immediately plan to do anything about it.

Go behind the labels. Don’t stop at definining your career as computer programmer or lawyer or doctor. What are you contributing as a computer programmer? How does your career make a difference in other people’s lives? Is it nothing more than a way for you to make money? As a lawyer do you resolve disputes and spread peace, or do you milk conflict for money? As a doctor do you heal people, or are you just a legal drug pusher? What is the essence of your career right now?

Now when you have your answer, you next have to ask yourself, is this you? Is this truly a career that reflects the best of who you are as a person?

For example, if you see the real purpose behind your current line of work as making a handful of investors wealthier… nothing more noble than that… then is that an accurate reflection of your best contribution? Is that you?

If you already have a career that accurately reflects the best of who you are, that’s wonderful. But if you don’t, then realize that you’re free to change it. If your career as a regional distributor for a major soda manufacturer basically boils down to pushing sugar water to make people fatter, you don’t have to keep it that way.

I think if you realize that your current work doesn’t fit who you are, then you have to make a choice. You have to decide if you deserve having a career that truly suits you. If you don’t feel you deserve it, then you will settle for defining your career in such narrow terms as job, money, paycheck, promotion, boss, coworkers, etc. No one is forcing you to accept that as your definition of career.

On the other hand, you can choose to embrace another definition of career that uses terms like purpose, calling, contribution, meaning, abundance, happiness, fulfillment, etc. This requires a top-down approach. You first think hard about what your purpose here is… what kind of contribution do you want to make with your life? Once you figure that out, then you work down to the level of how to manifest that in terms of the work you do.

And for many people, the seeming impossibility of that manifesting part is paralyzing. This is especially true for men, who usually take their responsibility as breadwinners very seriously. You see yourself logically having two choices: I could stay in my current job, which pays the bills and earns me a good living, or I could go jump into something that fits me better, but I just can’t see how to make money at it. I have a mortgage to pay and a family who depends on me; I can’t do that to them.

The problem though is thinking that these are the only alternatives… thinking that you have to make a choice between money and happiness. That assumption is what causes the paralysis against action. You can also envision the third alternative of having money and happiness together. In fact, that’s actually the most likely outcome. If you don’t currently have a career that is deeply fulfilling to you in the sense that you know you’re contributing in a way that matters, then deep down, you will sabotage yourself from going too far with it. You will always know that you’re on the wrong path for you, and this is going to slap a demotivating slump over everything you try to do in that line of work. You’ll do your job, but you’ll never feel that you’re really living up to your potential. You’ll always have problems with procrastination and weak motivation, and they’ll never be resolved no matter how many time management strategies you attempt. Your job will never feel like a truly satisfying career — it just can’t grow into that because you’ve planted your career tree in bad soil. You’ll always be stuck with a bonsai.

But when you get your career aligned from top to bottom, such that what you’re ultimately contributing is an expression of the best of yourself, the money will come too. You’ll be enjoying what you do so much, and you’ll find your work so fulfilling, that turning it into an income stream won’t be that hard. You’ll find a way to do it. Making money is not at odds with your greater purpose; they can lie on the same path. The more money you make, the greater your ability to contribute.

But most importantly you’ll feel you really deserve all the money you earn. When your career is aligned with the best of who you are, you won’t secretly feel that your continued career success means going farther down the wrong path. You won’t hold back anymore. You’ll want to take your career as far as you can because it’s an expression of who you are. And this will make you far more receptive to all the opportunities that are all around you, financial or otherwise.

But how do you make this transition? Is a leap of faith required? Not really. I don’t think of it as a leap of faith. It’s more of a leap of courage, and it’s a logical kind of courage, not an emotional one. It comes down to making a decision about how important your own happiness and fulfillment are to you. Really, how important is it for you to have meaningful, fulfilling work? Is it OK for you to continue working at a job that doesn’t allow you to contribute the very best of who you are? If you find yourself in such a situation, then your answer is yes — you’ve made it OK for you to tolerate this situation.

But you see… self-actualizing people who successfully make this leap will at some point conclude that it’s definitely not OK. In fact, it’s intolerable. They wake up and say, “Wait a minute here. This is absolutely, totally unacceptable for me to be spending the bulk of my time at a job that isn’t a deeply fulfilling career. I can’t keep doing this. This ends now.”

These people “wake up” by realizing that what’s most important about a career is the high-level view that includes happiness, fulfillment, and living on purpose. Things like money, success, and achievement are a very distant second. But when you work from within the first category, the second category takes care of itself.

Before you’ve had this awakening, you most likely don’t see how that last sentence is possible. And that’s because you don’t understand that it is nothing more than a choice. You have probably chosen to put money above fulfillment in your current line of work. That choice means that you won’t have fulfillment. But it’s not that you can’t have fulfillment — you can choose to change your priorities and act on them at any time. The real choice you made was not to be fulfilled in your current line of work. You bought into the illusion that money is at odds with fulfillment, and that money is the more important of the two, so that is all you see. No matter what job you take, you find this assumption proves true for you.

But once you go through the “waking up” experience and firmly decide to put fulfillment first, you suddenly realize that being fulfilled AND having plenty of money is also a choice that’s available to you. There are countless ways for you to do both; you simply have to permit yourself to see them. You realize that you were the one who chose EITHER-OR instead of AND, while all the time you were totally free to choose AND whenever you wanted.

You set the standards for your career choices. Most likely your current standard ranks fulfillment and meaningful contribution very low in comparison to working on interesting tasks and making sufficient money. But those standards are yours to set. At any point you’re free to say, “Having a deeply meaningful and fulfilling career is an absolute MUST for me. Working for money alone is simply not an option.” And once you make this conscious choice, you WILL begin seeing the opportunities that fit this new standard. But you’ll never even recognize those opportunities as long as it remains OK for you to spend all your work time being unfulfilled.

I want to drive home this point. Having a fulfilling career that earns you plenty of money doesn’t require a leap of faith. It only requires a choice. You just have to wake up one day and tell yourself that you deserve both, and that you won’t settle for anything less. It’s not about finding the right job. A career isn’t something you find; it doesn’t require someone to give you something. You aren’t at the mercy of circumstances. A career is something you create, something you build. It means that the work you do each day is aligned with what you feel to be your purpose. Once you start doing this kind of work, even if for no pay initially, your self-esteem will grow to the point where you’ll become so resourceful and open to new opportunities that you’ll have no trouble making plenty of money from it. However, when you do so, the money won’t be that important. It will just be a resource for you to do more of what you love.

Your life is too precious to waste working only for money or for a purpose that doesn’t inspire you. No one can hold you back from making this decision but you. Especially don’t hide behind your family’s needs. If your family truly loves you, then they need you to be fulfilled and living on purpose far more than anything else. And if you love them, then isn’t your greatest role to serve as a model to them of how to be happy? What would you want for your own children for their careers? And do you want the same for yourself?

Your Powerful Imagination

It is a common belief that the human brain is somehow empty at birth, and as the child begins to grow and receive stimulus, the neurons start making connections. Science is now discovering, however, that the reverse may be true. The infant is actually born with many more neuron connections than most adults have. It may be that learning does not happen by making neuron connections, but rather by weeding out those that are not used. If this is true, then we are all, literally, born with brilliant minds and we must use it or lose it.

In the first weeks of life, most babies will babble every possible sound imaginable. Yet, these children will later lose the ability to create sounds that are not a part of the language they have been trained to speak. Therefore, the childs environment will play a tremendous role in brain development.

Scientists claim that in our society the average individual uses only 5 – 10% of the brain’s potential. Imagine what your life could be like if you were able to stimulate your mind into activating even a small portion of that unused potential!

Begin by asking yourself:

1. If I could have anything at all, what would it be?
2. What would I need to do to attain it?
3. What stops me from doing those things now?
4. How can I overcome those challenges to attain the life I desire?

These questions move us into the realms of imagination and positive thinking — the qualities that will allow you to awaken that other 90% and keep those neurons firing! Now you might say to yourself, I already have a positive attitude, or, perhaps that positive stuff doesn’t work — all I need is willpower! But the following demonstration proves that the imagination is far more powerful than willpower can ever be.

Okay, ready for the test? Gather all of your strength and “willpower.” Be sure NOT to do the following here it comes DON’T think of a red firetruck!!

What happened?

You automatically thought of a red firetruck, right? This is because when the will and the imagination are in conflict, the imagination always wins. Most people spend a great deal of time telling themselves what they DONT want, instead of what they DO want. Even with every ounce of willpower they can muster, they somehow end up with more of the same old thing. Thats because the mind works in pictures, not words. Imagination is the secret ingredient of life. If people imagine themselves rich, regardless of the amount of money they have, chances are they will be healthy and strong and live an abundant life. If a rich man imagines himself poor or on the brink of losing his fortune, it is likely that trouble and sickness will plague him to the grave.

All that we are searching for in life is already present within ourselves. The sooner we come to believe in the power of our own imagination, the easier our lives will become. I challenge you to stretch your mind to the possibility of accomplishment beyond your present aspirations. What if, in an attempt to reach your goals, you awakened the powerful latent genius within? How would you feel if you found the cure for AIDS or cancer? Think of the people who would benefit from your achievement. The reality is that until everyone on the planet imagines a world of health and vitality for all, there will always be disease and woe. Take charge of your life now. Imagine your way to health and happiness and it will be so.

Wheelchair Armrests and Your Safety

Disabled individuals are often the most disadvantaged group in the society. Although there are laws that requires establishments to apply the necessary adjustment to accommodate these disabled individuals there are still some who neglect to provide the appropriate modification. Nevertheless, throughout the years disabled people have come to adjust to their surroundings and have been given better opportunity.

Most disabled individuals especially those who have paralyzed legs or spinal cord uses wheelchair. A wheelchair has many different parts and functions. For one, the armrest is used as a resting place of the arm and used for support and stability. Oftentimes the armrest is one of the taken for granted parts of a wheelchair. But one cannot deny the fact that the armrest functions more than a support for the arm. It helps restrain a person in the wheelchair, it helps stabilize a person in sudden stops and help in stabilizing a person when picking up something from the floor. When the weight of your arm is resting on the armrest, chances are you might be able to straighten your spine and sit more comfortably.

Its true that armrests can interfere with your wheeling especially to those persons who have shorter arms. It can hinder you from reaching something on the floor or on the table. Nevertheless, armrests are usually removable so you do not need to use them all the time. In fact many users of wheelchair buy armrests and use them only when necessary. Additionally, armrest can protect you if you have limited upper body balance. It could also help you shift your weight in the chair to prevent sores. And as falls could also happen even if you have someone pushing you, having an armrest could mean the difference between staying in the wheelchair and getting slammed at the pavement.

The wheelchair industry has produced different types of armrests. Remember that your choice of armrest should be based in your activities, environment, special needs, level of function and preference. Hence, the decision to use armrest is up to you and what makes you comfortable and not on the perception of how tough you are or anyone elses attitude.

Major League Soccer – Then & Now

With its primary goal to be the worlds most competitive and prestigious soccer league, along with one of Americas premier sports and entertainment properties, Major League Soccer is a large part of worldwide soccer news and is making great strides toward accomplishing its objective. With 6 teams making up the Eastern Conference and an equal number featured in the Western Conference, Major League Soccer is going strong with 12 clubs in only its 11th season.

However, soccer news recalls that the league has made great achievements since its inception in 1993. Its inaugural season began in 1995 and soccer news stirred around the new formation of teams, event locations and new players. In 1996, soccer news reported the Leagues first player draft and spring training. As attendance continued to grow, ESPN began televising soccer news and popularity soared across the nation. During this year, more soccer news reports and members of the media began covering MLS events. Supporters turned out in large fashion to catch a glimpse of their favorite teams and players.

In 1998, Major League Soccer underwent its first expansion season, which meant big changes for the League. With the addition of two teams, which brought the club count from its original 10 to the 12, soccer news introduced the latest League members as Chicago and Miami. Both teams proved powerful during their first year as they advanced to the playoffs. The following year, in 1999, Columbus Crew Stadium officially opened as the first major league stadium in the United States that was constructed specifically for soccer. Its presence paid off as thousands of fans packed the house to watch featured competitions.

In 2002, Major League Soccer removed 2 of their 12 clubs from the roster and once again returned to 10 teams. Tampa Bay and Miami were no longer League teams, but were replaced in 2004 with other expansion teams. Real Salt Lake and Club Deportivo Chivas USA joined the League and brought the club number back up to its current 12 teams.

The clubs of Major League Soccer consist of both domestic and international competitors. With such a diverse roster, players are constantly being featured in soccer news magazines, soccer news televised programs and interviews.

Today, Major League Soccer continues to gain in popularity in the United States and around the world. Cheering fans, exciting competitions and major soccer news coverage are among the many indications that Major League Soccer is here to stay.

To Find Childrens Furniture That Contributes to the Decor in Your Child’s Room

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:30 am

Parents trying to decorate a child’s room often settle for far too simple a color palette – somehow, it’s popular to try to turn a child’s room out as if it were a cartoon. Parents like to color everything in primary shades. Is that really necessary though? When you pick childrens furniture to set out your child’s room, you want to go with a sophisticated selection of colors – typically, something that an adult would appreciate, not just a child who’s addicted to cartoons. Even if you do like the primary colors, consider swapping primary blue for a kind soft blue and bright pink for a rosier shade could make for an interesting variation. If you want to design a room that a child might like to keep for a while, you need especially to design a number of color combinations in the room that won’t bore you child (or you), quickly.

People don’t tend to think of furniture as decor for a room. It really can be that though. Consider the effect that bedding in your child’s room can have on the overall decor. The bed is a large surface that can hold a sheet, a duvet and a pillow – all things that can contribute to the decor of the room. Geometric patterns for instance, feel contemporary; cute florals or Disney characters can lend a distinct air of innocence. Choosing childrens furniture, you should probably go with quality stuff that will last for decades. Not that your child will be using them for that long; it’s just that children take strength from the solidness of the things around them in their room. Since your child probably has a lot of stuff – toys, books, clothing and so on, a beautiful armoire should be an important part of your shopping list too.

How does one classify a rocking chair? Is it supposed to be childrens furniture or is it a toy? Either way, parents seem a little reluctant to buy one of these today. They just don’t seem to go well with the kind of decor parents have in mind for their children’s rooms. But there are all kinds of new interpretations of the basic rocking chair design that might well catch your fancy if you would look. Any parent is usually worried about spending a great deal on children’s furniture. They worry that their children will outgrow their furniture really quickly. You can easily buy furniture that is designed to adapt to a growing child – you could buy a crib in fact, that expands to a bed for instance, or a cupboard that turns into a desk. You could also keep in mind that furniture for children doesn’t really have to be purpose-built. If you have a spare coffee table elsewhere in the house that hasn’t seen much use, you can easily bring it into your child’s room to serve as a kind of work surface or a place to display your child’s works of art.

When you buy anything to furnish your child’s room with, make sure that you take your child along with you for the trip. This way, your child will feel a sense of ownership and permanence in a way that can bepsychological asset. And finally, before you actually make a choice, make sure that you consider durability over simple attractiveness. Furniture only looks beautiful so long as it stays together solidly in one piece. Go with quality as your first consideration. Nothing spells attractiveness as much as quality in furniture.

Now May Be the Time To Go Into Dividends

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 5:07 am

Soaring technology stocks led the longest bull market in history during the 1990s, driving investors to shun stocks of dividend-paying firms.

The steady stock performance of more conservative firms just seemed pale in comparison. But now, rising interest rates and slowing corporate earnings are causing investors to again turn to the tried-and-true: high-quality firms with strong cash flows, solid earnings and a healthy dividend stream.

Companies that can commit to paying a regular dividend are ones that generally are fundamentally strong and optimistic about their future. A company’s dividend history is a good indication of its willingness to share profits and demonstrate accountability to investors. In periods of market uncertainty, these qualities become especially appealing to investors.

Stocks of companies that pay dividends generally have less price fluctuation than stocks of non-dividend payers. The dividend can create a cushion and smooth out a stock’s price volatility. It’s important to remember, however, that although dividend-paying stocks can add diversification to your portfolio and help minimize volatility, they still involve risk.

The 2003 Tax Act added allure to dividend-paying stocks. It lowered the tax rate for individuals on qualified dividends from as much as 38.6 percent to just 15 percent, depending on your income tax bracket.

This appreciation for dividends has spawned a renewed interest in mutual funds that pay dividends like the American Century Equity Income Fund (TWEIX), which has been investing in dividend-paying stocks for more than a decade. The companies in the fund typically are well-established and fundamentally strong, have steady earnings, a solid balance sheet and a history of paying dividends.

The size of dividends also is on the rise. Three quarters of the companies in the S&P 500 Index pay dividends, and more than half of them increased their payouts during 2004. That’s proof of a lot of strong balance sheets. A business has to have the earnings to pay a dividend and a strong balance sheet to increase one.

Investors’ preference for dividend-paying stocks is likely to continue, and so will the ability of many companies to continue paying dividends. Several years of economic uncertainty have driven companies to cut costs, reduce debt and rein in their capital spending. That means many of them now have a lot of cash on their balance sheets.

This combination of lower debt and larger cash pools gives them the ability to increase dividends. Even with the current emphasis returning more cash to shareholders, the current dividend payout ratio is still below the historical average.

Step Away From The Computer Before You Have A Mental Meltdown

Do I Read A Technical Manual Tonight, or The Lord Of The Rings?
—————————-
Just out of courtesy, I think I should tell you that the following article is about as far from my typical writings as I can get. Quite frankly, it is nothing more than a very tired technology guy ranting and raving. Maybe a little wining too.

My entire world is about technology; computers, data communication, wireless and wired Ethernet, PDA’s, mobile devices, firewalls, security assessments, and on and on and on. I’m so addicted to technology and business that I have trouble deciding whether to read a technical manual or a good sci-fi / fantasy novel.

I love what I do and have no plans on making any changes in the foreseeable future but something as simple as checking the time of day nearly resulted in a mental nuclear meltdown this morning. This week has been considerably stressing. I have written at least eight significant proposals, performed continuous work on a report for a external security assessment, made and received way to many phone calls, and have been staying up to all hours of the night, or morning depending on how you look at it (It’s 2am on Saturday right now).

My Kingdom For The Right Time On All My Clocks!
————————————————–
This morning, I literally became overwhelmed when I looked at the time on my desktop computer. Between all the laptops, digital and analog clocks, stereos, televisions, cable box, DVD players, and other electronic devices in my home, there are 28 devices that display the time of day. And guess what, there was about a 5 minute delta in the current time between this vast amount of time pieces. It sounds quite ridiculous but I nearly freaked out. With all the technology at our disposal, you would think it would be easy to synchronize all the time pieces in my home. And keep them synchronized!

Ok, this article is not really about clocks but it was “time” that set me off this morning. The fact is, like many others, time is something that I just don’t have much of. I believe Mr. Einstein would take a relatively strong position on this issue of mine. On top of the time issue, how much technology, or should I say , how much continuous exposure to technology can the human brain take before it just explodes. My family, friends, and associates routinely ask me “How in the world can you remember all these things about computers?” Sometimes I wonder this myself.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I wish I could just completely isolate myself from everything electronic; spinning fans, clicking hard drives, bussing monitors (even these darn flat panels), the clicking of the keys when I type, and lets not forget the inevitable beeping of my UPS’s several times a day because Florida Power and Light can’t seem to regulate the flow of electricity in a stable fashion.

It’s Vacation Time: Technology Prohibited At All Times
—————————-
I’ve been in the technology business all of my life. Do you know it took about 5 years of my wife complaining about me bringing laptops and other technology gadgets with me on vacations before I finally wised up. And guess what, the first time I left technology behind on one of our summer vacations, it was like someone had lifted a tremendous weight off my shoulders. It was so unbelievable that when my wife asked me where the laptop was it took her the entire day to believe me when I said I left it at home.

I know I’m not the only person that has these little “moments”. My New Years resolution this year was to simplify my life. I’m not embarrassed to say that I’ve not made much progress yet but I am not going to give up. I am going to bring harmony to my life if it kills me in the process.

Conclusion
———–
I won’t blame anyone who reads this article and feels compelled to send me a bill. After reviewing what I’ve written here it reads like notes taken during a psychotherapy session:. I’ve decided that I’m taking the day off from technology, right after I’m done posting this article. And now, I’m tired and going to get some sleep.

Need A Lift? Try A Success Program

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 9:19 pm

If you are like most people at some time in their life you have or you will enter a rut in life. Sometimes this rut is referred to as the mid-life crisis, some times it is called the prodigal period, but whatever it is called the same basic ingredients exist. They are questioning the meaning and direction of your life and evaluating whether or not you should make changes (often major) and how you should go about doing them. Often it is brought on by a feeling of discontentment in the place that they are in life compared to where they wanted to be. In short they feel that they are not achieving the success that they can and want to change that. I want to suggest that these people try out (or at least look into) a success program.

What is a success program? Well it can be a lot of different things really. They range in value and quality just like anything else and it is good to keep in mind that you often pay for what you get. What the essence of the program should be is how to change whatever you are doing to adjust your trajectory in order to achieve the things that you are setting out to do. This mainly has to do with adjusting your thinking.

These programs are often a conference in a nice (often exotic) location that allows people to break away from whatever might be holding them back in their home place and invigorates them for success. After all if a success program didnt get people up for success then it really couldnt be called successful could it? Any way there is often a guest speaker most of the time someone with two things. One a gift for motivation which requires a certain personality that is supposed to be infectious and persuasive. And two a story of the time in their life when they went through a similar phase and how they got out of it. They are often very successful and can prove it with real life dollars and cents figures that convince people they are just a bunch of fluff.

There often are books at these events that allow people to take the message home to ponder it and there are many times different specialty workshops that allow people to hone in on their area of expertise or interest. Again the major goal of a success program is to make people change their way of thinking that allows them to change the course of their future. The mind is a powerful thing and if you can get it bent on success rather than futility, you have done a wonderful and potentially life altering thing for them!

Protect Yourself From Identity Theft.

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:20 pm

There are so many ways that your identity can be stolen. Its such a shame that people take something as valuable as the internet and steal from you, but it happens. When it does, they can go on a spending spree that can ruin you financially. Its a dangerous game for them, and for you its dangerous but no game. It happens a lot but in this article well show you some strategies so that it doesnt happen to you.

Here are proactive strategies to keep it from happening. Here are some ways to help you fight identity theft and avoid having someone else ruin your good credit rating and keep you from getting the loan or mortgage you want to get.

Be careful how much information you give out over the Internet.

Never put your credit card number into an e-mail.

If you do make purchases online only use sites that offer a high level of encryption and only use one credit card for all of your Internet purchases and make sure that credit card has a low limit. If you do that, no one will be able to ruin your credit rating even if they max out your credit card because the limit is so low!

You should also be shredding all of your outgoing mail. A lot of your information is already on your garbage and all the thieves have to do is pick through your garbage and learn about you.

Make sure that your mailbox is safe. You may have to rent a mailbox if you live in an area where it is not secure and private.

Get a credit check done regularly to see if someone is ruining your credit rating. A credit report will tell you how many credit inquiries have been made and if you see any on there that you did not approve of, you should contact the credit bureau immediately.

Why this talk about identity theft on a site about loans? Because if someone steals your identity they can get loans based on your credit rating and they will disappear with the goods while you get stuck with a bad credit report.

A Buyers Guide to Dictaphones and Digital Voice Recorders

Dictaphones or Digital Voice Recorders (DVRs) are ideal for recording voice memos, interviews, conferences, meetings and phone conversations. The term Dictaphone is a brand name that refers to the version that uses cassette tapes to record, as opposed to the newer Digital Voice Recorders (DVR) that the save the audio to memory.

Digital Voice Recorder (DVR)

Use your USB port to save typing time by directly transferring audio files from your DVR to your computer

With the DVR there is no need to rewind; when you finish recording you simply press the play button to playback immediately

Each audio file you record to your DVR is automatically saved under a number with a time-and-date stamp

The DVR usually has between 2 to 5 folders to separate audio for better organization

Some DVR’s allow you to move messages between folders and split or delete messages

You wont cause a distraction during meetings or conferences changing tapes and you wont miss anything important whilst doing so

Some DVR’s come with software that automatically converts the voice file to text for easy transcription

Newer DVR’s have expandable memory and come with external memory cards. Look out for this as it gives you more flexibility with recording time and makes it easier to download audio to your computer

The DVR is normally powered by 1 or 2 AAA alkaline or rechargeable batteries

Cassette Tape/Dictaphone

Choose between Mini, Micro or Standard; Mini cassettes (15min per side) hold half of the content of Standard and Micro (30mins per side)

Cassette Tape Dictaphones can be played on any player that takes the respective size

With digital you only have a limited amount of space to store recordings (if you have no external memory card) – whereas with a cassette tape Dictaphone you can simply exchange tapes if you run out of room

Battery life is longer in a Dictaphone than a Digital Voice Recorder

A Dictaphone is a cheaper alternative

There is no digital storage on a Dictaphone cassette tape

Reuse the cassettes – you can buy a machine that automatically erases micro and mini cassettes

Many come with equipment specifically for recording phone conversations

Desktop or Portable Voice Recorder?

Desktop DVR’s or Dictaphones are generally cheaper and are ideal for recording phone conversations or are used in conjunction with transcription software. There are numerous models of portable Dictaphones varying in size and ability, but are all ideal if you are on the road or need a Dictaphone or DVR for times of inspiration.

Push Button or Thumb Slide Recorders?

Push Button Cassette Recorders usually have the ability to insert dictation but it can be very difficult to find the point you want. With the Thumb slide switch it is much easier to review and control with rewind review capability, rewind, insert, play and stop.

Which Mode?

There are three levels of recording quality and differing recording times. The longer the recording time the lower the quality.

High Quality (HQ) – 43 mins approx.
Short Play (SP) – 65 mins approx.
Long Play (LP) – 121 mins approx.

Advertisers usually display the longest recording time, so keep in mind that the Dictaphone or DVR will record at less than half of that on high quality. This is particularly important for DVR’s, as the higher quality mode uses much more memory and you dont want to be halfway through a meeting or interview and find you are out of memory.

There are usually two levels of sensitivity available on a Dictaphone or DVR. LOW is the best for dictation, as the microphone tends to be uni-directional in this mode and will focus on your voice. HIGH sensitivity picks up sound in all directions along with unwanted background noise.

Dictaphones and Digital Voice Recorders: Other Features to Consider

Voice Activate System (VAS) – Dictaphones or DVR’s with VAS will automatically record when they hear your voice (or other sound) without having to push any buttons. Great for when your hands are tied up.

Alarm – to remind you when to record or a timer that you can set to automatically record between two times

Tie clip microphone – for hands free recording

Earphones – for play back when you do not want to disturb others

Rechargeable batteries and a battery level indicator

Microphones can either be built in or detachable. If you want your Dictaphone or DVR for a higher quality of recording such as music, then look for one with a microphone jack

Speakers most are built in but some models have detachable speakers that can be used for presentations.

Digital storage – some come with more than others

Hands free or foot control - keep your hands free for typing or playing an instrument

Automatic backspace – automatically reverse the desired number of seconds for input or playback

Transcribers and Docking Stations

All digital transcription systems require you to use a foot pedal connected to your computer. This enables you to transcribe files from your Dictaphone or DVR from audio to text by listening and typing a few seconds at a time.

Docking stations make it very easy to download the files you have recorded to your computer. Some docking stations also recharge the batteries on your recorder, which is ideal if your Dictaphone is in high use.

Free Lesson On Basic Guitar Chords

Understanding Guitar Chords, the Key Element to Mastering the Guitar

Don’t get discouraged if you’re trying to learn the guitar. Follow the steps below and soon you’ll be playing your favorite songs by learning basic guitar chords. Once you get a feel for the basic chords, you can go deeper and learn how chords are made of major and minor guitar scales.

Popular Songs Sometimes Only Have Three Chords

Have you ever heard Wild Thing or Louie Louie and wondered what chords make up these songs? Maybe you havent, but at any rate you might be interested to know that these songs along with Twist and Shout and Hang on Snoopy are all built from three major chords. They are the A, D, and E chords.

What Exactly is a Chord?

What is a chord? A chord is two or more notes played together. A common type of chord is called a triad, which is three notes played at the same time. With the guitar, you can make chords by strumming, as a minimum, three strings simultaneously to send out three notes or more. Its simple to see that with the guitar having only six strings that the max number of notes in a guitar chord is going to be six.

Basic Chord Types

Now it is important to understand that there are many different variations of chords. Three of the most common types of chords are major, minor, and sevenths. The way in which you use these chords will determine the type of music or mood that you will make. For example, if you need some solemn and meditative chords, use minor chords. If you want a really solid and stable sound, then you will want to be using major chords. If you want a jazzier yet somewhat incomplete sounding chord, you would want to go with seventh chords.

Commonly Used Chords

Just as you would need to know several basic phrases in the case of learning another language, so you will need to learn around 6-16 chords fluently in order to really have a grip on playing the guitar. Some of the most common chords are listed below.

A, G, C, D, E, F, Am, Em, and Dm chords (note: the lowercase m next to the letter means that it is a minor chord.)

Get Out your Guitar and Strum Some Chords

Now that we understand the need to learn chords, lets look at what steps there are to help you learn chords.

1. Get a chart of guitar chords and look at where the fingering is for each chord.

2. Start by simply choosing at least two of the basic chords and work on the transition between the two.

3. Make sure that it sounds good. The fact is that if it sounds good you are probably doing it right. (HINT: If it doesnt sound good to you, press down on the strings firmer with your fingers.)

4. Now learn to enjoy playing guitar chords by choosing a few of your favorite songs that have these basic guitar chords and play them until you can sing along. (FYI: Beatles have a great selection of well known songs that use basic guitar chords as the foundation.)

5. Play daily! You must remember that although its hard at first, you are going to make progress and it will become easier to play the guitar by consistently playing it.

6. Practice! Remember guitar practice makes perfect guitar music!

So you’ve made it this far and you’re hungry for more guitar lessons, why don’t you check out guitar tabs for beginners Now it’s Your Turn to Learn the Guitar
At any rate, the only way to know that the guitar is for you and your friends is to give it a try. Good luck and maybe this can be one of those things that you can look back on and say, I am sure glad I learned to play the guitar
